New York, NY - Tactile 3, Lisle Ellis's new trio investigates some distinctly fresh compositional and improvisational tactics that reflect his original and pioneering approach to music. Canadian born Ellis is a veteran improvisor-bassist whose work spans three decades and two countries. Rigorous exploration has always been central to his artistry and he is regarded as one who is always challenging himself and audiences. Recent years have brought him attention as a creator of computer/electronic music and as a visual artist.
Guggenheim fellow Rudresh Mahanthappa is considered by some to be one of the most important musicians in jazz today. He has incorporated the culture of his Indian ancestry and fused a myriad of influences to create a truly groundbreaking artistic vision.
Brownsville, Texas native and recent New York City resident, Gustavo Aguilar, is emerging as a percussionist, composer and improvisor whose formidable talent is demanding attention. His 2007 CD, unsettled on an old sense of place (Henceforth Records), has garnered rave reviews.
