A native of Tel Aviv, Yael Acher Graduated with a BA degree in music and Classical flute performance from the Rubin Academy for Music and Dance in Jerusalem. She has lived and worked as a performer, composer, and educator in Copenhagen since 1992. In 2003, she took a certificate course in MAX/MSP, at Harvestworks, New York, and in 2005 she won a Fulbright scholarship to study Composition at NYU and Hunter College. Since then she resides and works in New York.

Acher is a multiple genre instrumentalist & composer: performing Classical, Modern, Free-Improvisation, Progressive electro/instrumental Jazz, Free Jazz, Latin, Funky and Electronics - with ensembles, choirs, Modern Dance and DJs. Outside of New York, she has appeared at The Susan Dellal Centre for Modern Dance in Tel-Aviv, the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, and Lille2004 in France. She cooperates as a composer/performer with choreographer/dancers such as: Kim Itoh (Japan), Tim Rushton (UK), and Ellis Wood (NYC).

Junk"KAT" & Modiano- Since the early 90s, Acher has been the leader of an electro-instrumental progressive groove jazz group. The band has performs throughout Europe and New York, in collaboration with rappers, DJs and video artists. Acher is also involved in the free-jazz scene, performing with artists in Tel Aviv, Copenhagen, Milano and New York.
Her music has been reviewed internationally in New Music Connoisseur, and Cadence Magazine in NYC, Jazz Magazine (France), etc. It has been broadcast in Denmark, Spain, France, Rumania and the USA.

She is the recipient of many grants, including awards from the Fulbright Commission, American Scandinavian Society, Copenhagen Culture Foundation, Danish Art Council, Danish Artists Union, Danish Jazz Foundation, Danish Musicians Union.

"Yael Acher is a flutist who isn't about faking the funk. Instead of floating diaphanous tones on top of inncous smooth jazz, her hard-edged Junk Kat Modiano ensemble is run from the kick drum."- Time Out, New York.

More about Blue Note
Blue Note
Regarding the Jazz scene in New York City, one of the Blue Note s managers matter of factly told us This is it. Indeed, the Blue Note is arguably the world s most popular jazz club. Although the club only opened their doors in the early 80 s, it has the feel of a longtime veteran in the New York Jazz scene. Once you get over the commercial feel of the joint, including its gold plaque embedded tables, mediocre meals named after jazz songs, and overpriced gift shop, the Blue Note is truly among the best of its kind. Expect to see world renowned talent on any given day except for Mondays, which is reserved for exceptional local talent. Show times are 9 00 and 11 30 during the week and additional Sunday matinees at 1 00 PM and 3 30 PM. Check the schedule link for show details.
