Description
FEATURING:
Jason Domnarski, piano
Other musicians, TBA

Since arriving in New York City in 2004, pianist Jason Domnarski has been an active member of the downtown music scene, performing in several different venues with a variety of projects. Following his graduation from Skidmore College, where his self-directed trio was awarded a Downbeat Student Music Award, Domnarski completed his first studio recording, An Elephant's Waltz. In support of the record, the trio made its New York City debut at the National Arts Club and has since performed throughout the city at several clubs, including the Blue Note, Jazz Standard and a weekly residency at Rockwood Music Hall. In addition to his trio, Domnarski is an in-demand sideman, performing regularly with Spielerfrau, a Brooklyn based rock band; Special Patrol, an instrumental rock/jazz group; and several other musicians and bands in the city. He has toured throughout the US, and in 2006, accompanied Spielerfrau on a tour of Russia, headlining festivals in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

2008 saw the release of Notes from Underground, Domnarski's second CD as a leader. Comprised of seven originals and a cover of David Bowie's "Life on Mars," the CD is a true synthesis of his New York City musical experience. Not your average trio record, it combines elements of rock, pop and electronic styles with unique piano sounds and innovative production; a fitting statement from one of New York City's most original young pianists.

More about Blue Note
Blue Note
Regarding the Jazz scene in New York City, one of the Blue Note s managers matter of factly told us This is it. Indeed, the Blue Note is arguably the world s most popular jazz club. Although the club only opened their doors in the early 80 s, it has the feel of a longtime veteran in the New York Jazz scene. Once you get over the commercial feel of the joint, including its gold plaque embedded tables, mediocre meals named after jazz songs, and overpriced gift shop, the Blue Note is truly among the best of its kind. Expect to see world renowned talent on any given day except for Mondays, which is reserved for exceptional local talent. Show times are 9 00 and 11 30 during the week and additional Sunday matinees at 1 00 PM and 3 30 PM. Check the schedule link for show details.
