Description
Hailing from California, Joseph moved to New York City in 1996 to pursue his music studies as a scholarship student at the acclaimed New School University jazz program. During his time there he had the opportunity to study saxophone with Jesse Davis and David Glasser as well as pursuing private studies with Junior Mance, Charles Tolliver, and Jimmy Owens. He was selected as featured soloist for the 1998 Disney Collegiate All-Star Jazz Band and worked extensively for various cruise-lines and “club date” ensembles. Today, Joseph is very active on the New York City music scene as both a performer and composer. As an instrumentalist he has had the good fortune to work with many top names in jazz including: Junior Mance, Benny Powell, George Coleman, Vanessa Ruben, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Cab Calloway Orchestra, Bobby Sanabria’s Afro-Cuban Dream Band, James “Jabbo” Ware, Charlie Persip and Supersound, the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra, trumpeter Eddie Allen’s big band, and Jazz Messenger Valery Ponomarev’s Jazz Orchestra. His non-jazz work includes the O’Jays, the Platters, and R&B superstar Beyonce, and many latin/salsa ensembles in NYC. In 2006 Joseph was selected to be in the inaugural edition of the Jazz Camerata, a jazz septet sponsored by the Youth Orchestra of the Americas and composed of musicians from all over North and South America. This group travels the world giving clinics and performing concerts. In addition, Joseph leads his own sextet “Technical Blak” which features his original compositions. This sextet is made up of some of the finest young talent in NYC including Jerome Jennings on drums, Matt Rybicki on bass, Dion Tucker on trombone, and many more. He also leads a quartet with Oscar Perez on piano and Jerome Jennings on drums that focuses on a mix of originals and standards. Joseph’s latest project as a composer is being musical director and arranger for the “Diamond Dreams Orchestra”, an ensemble dedicated to the music of the 1920’s featuring many of today’s finest musicians, including Earl May, James Zollar, and Alex Harding. In addition, he freelances as a composer/arranger for film and jazz ensembles.

More about Garage Restaurant
Garage Restaurant
The building was established in the 1920's as an automobile garage. The Garage logo is derived from the original mosaic embedded in the front of the building. In the 1940's and 50's, the space was called The Nut Club, a cabaret that was a forerunner of the comedy clubs of today, with entertainers such as Jackie Gleason performing on stage. From 1969 to the early 1990's the Circle Repertory Company, an off-Broadway theater troupe, used the space as their theater (featuring early performances by actors Danny Aiello, Alec Baldwin, William Hurt and Demi Moore). On June 14, 1995, Garage opened to rave reviews.
