Description
Alan Chaubert is the Owner and Director of Shobo Music Studios. He offers lessons in Piano, Trumpet, Jazz Improvisation, Commercial Arranging, and even lessons in French. He offers lessons in a variety of styles including classical, pop, jazz, show tunes, blues, and more.

Born in Switzerland, Alan Chaubert started playing Trumpet at the age of 12 and piano by 16. Since then he has been playing professionally with different local bands and classical orchestras, as well as teaching music in private schools.

In 1985 he received a degree in performance/teaching from the Geneva Conservatory with honors. From 1985-91, after receiving two years full scholarship from Switzerland, he decided to explore the world of jazz and studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he perfected his studies in Jazz Improvisation and Commercial Arranging. (Diploma in Commercial Arranging - 1990)

During that time, Alan exposed himself to a wide variety of styles from classical, church music, funk bands, blues, jazz, and even salsa. He was a member for 4 years of one of the Boston's Hottest R&B band, "High Function".

In 1992, Alan became a band leader and started a long collaboration with a versatile singer, Yvonne Taylor, as accompanist and musical director and has produced 4 of her CDs. He has also organized 4 successful European tours.

CDs produced by Alan Chaubert:

"Love U, Miss U, Want U" Yvonne Taylor 1995
"Gospel and Negro Spirituals" Yvonne Taylor 1996
"Live in Rolle, Switzerland" Yvonne Taylor 1997
"Love Letters" (jazz) Yvonne Taylor 2000

Established in New York since 1996, teaching and performing around town, Alan decided in August 2002 to open SHOBO MUSIC STUDIOS.

More about Garage Restaurant
Garage Restaurant
The building was established in the 1920's as an automobile garage. The Garage logo is derived from the original mosaic embedded in the front of the building. In the 1940's and 50's, the space was called The Nut Club, a cabaret that was a forerunner of the comedy clubs of today, with entertainers such as Jackie Gleason performing on stage. From 1969 to the early 1990's the Circle Repertory Company, an off-Broadway theater troupe, used the space as their theater (featuring early performances by actors Danny Aiello, Alec Baldwin, William Hurt and Demi Moore). On June 14, 1995, Garage opened to rave reviews.
