Description
Since its opening in 1972, the Gershwin Theatre has scheduled some of the most amazing plays and musicals Broadway has to offer. Formerly known as the Uris Theatre, the Gershwin Theatre is located on West 51st Street in mid-town Manhattan in the Paramount Plaza. In addition to a calendar full of the biggest musicals in production, the Gershwin Theatre is also the home to the American Theatre Hall of Fame, which displays plaques for each inductee in the theater's lobby.

The Gershwin Theatre has been home to the Tony Award winning musical, Wicked, since 2003 and will continue to be for some time. In addition to Wicked, the Gershwin Theatre has also hosted such hit Broadway productions as Oklahoma!, Starlight Express, Riverdance, and Sweeney Todd. For two years in 1974, the theatre also functioned as a concert hall and scheduled legendary singers like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis, Jr. The Gershwin Theatre hosted Queen when they became the first rock band to perform on Broadway in 1974, while opening for Mott the Hoople.

While Wicked has no signs of stopping, audiences can look forward to more landmark events like these in the future. For now, go see Wicked as it dominates the performance calendar at the illustrious Gershwin Theatre!
