Paulette Dozier performs at New York’s Iguana VIP Lounge

Jazz stylist Paulette Dozier is one of the entertainers to be featured on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in the MAC Award nominated “Richard Skipper and Dana Lorge” cabaret series presented at the Iguana.

A new friendship was born when jazz vocalist Paulette Dozier made a stop at Manhattan’s Iguana Lounge this past April 7th to promote her upcoming summer appearances in the Big Apple. Invited by entertainer Richard Skipper (her new BFF), Paulette performed a solo number in his hit variety show hosted upstairs in the VIP Lounge. The elegant torch singer commenced with a swinging rendition of Sweet Georgia Brown to a delighted packed house, thrilling the audience of cabaret enthusiasts with her sultry alto sound and signature scat as she sang the number one classic.

At song’s end, Paulette’s segment of the show took a delightful turn when Richard Skipper, who is well known in the cabaret circuit for his extraordinary impersonation of Carol Channing, joined her on stage. Together, they improvised the closing of Sweet Georgia Brown segueing into a short, playful version of Hello Dolly.

It became a fitting tribute when Paulette surprised the crowd (and Richard) by lowering her alto register to imitate Louis Armstrong’s deep raspy voice. And even though her pipes couldn’t reach the legendary low timbre of Pop’s, the jazz diva was very convincing. To cap things off, Richard integrated into the song in duet, becoming none other than Carol Channing as Dolly.

This too short but tremendous performance was met with enthusiastic applause and demands for Paulette in a return engagement. Don’t miss the opportunity to see Paulette Dozier in concert this July. See schedule below.
