2009 has been designated as the International Year of Astronomy and is the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei's groundbreaking use of a telescope for astronomical purposes. As part of this worldwide celebration, the Virginia Living Museum will be hosting free star parties the second Saturday of every month in 2009 to encourage everyone to experience the wonder of looking through a telescope. A staff astronomer will be on hand to answer your questions. Observing dependant on weather. Planetarium program will be held rain or shine. Observing is FREE, evening planetarium programs are $6 for non-members, $3 for members. Get $1 off with an IYA hand stamp! Feb. 14: observing at 7pm, Virginia Skies at 7:30pm. March 17: observing at 7pm, Oasis in Space at 7:30pm. May 9: observing at 7pm, Virginia Skies at 7:30pm.
