Star was one of the contestants on the CBS reality television show of the second season of Rock Star. The show was a talent show type reality series in which the band Supernova was looking for a lead singer to front their band. The show's producer and the drummer of the band was Tommy Lee. On the show, Ryan consistently showed his diverse style from melodic and moving piano to rocking the Rolling Stones. During his run on the show he was nicknamed Ryan "The Darkhorse" Star by Dave Navarro. He was eventually eliminated from the show.
