Event details: REMIX DISCO[tech]™ Feat. Scottie B. and Cullen Stalin
Description
*REMIX DISCO[tech]* is a weekly Wednesday night party attended by young people from the Delaware region who are all about new music, energetic beats, and those who are looking for the best in DJ and musical talent.
Every Wednesday DJ BIS features top notch guest DJ's, producers, performers and other surprises from the US and abroad. The goal is to showcase unique talent in a state that otherwise would lack a venue and a crowd for such an event, while also representing to the fullest the art of DJing, remixing and production.
★ ★ OUR GUESTS(s) THIS WEEK ★ ★
✔ King of B-More Club music - Scottie B.
"Becoming one of the most requested and sought after djs in the world isn’t something that happens overnight. Scottie B has accomplished what every other DJ aspires to: he’ll forever be known as the innovator of a musical genre that transformed a regional sound into a style that now influences countless DJs worldwide.
Baltimore Club music is raw. Ol’ Dirty Bastard raw. Like eating hamburger that has not been cooked, teeth clenched into the meat as blood drips down your chin, raw. B-more Club music prides itself on being rough, rugged. It’s nothing if not unpretentious.
“The DJ was an extension of the crowd,” Scottie B says, “and there was a lot of nonsense going on at these clubs, from fist fights to cheating, so the sound was made as a reflection of that.”
This is the kind of primal music that makes you want to dance. It exists off emotion. In the late 1980s, Scottie B was known for his ability to mix any style of music, and out of this developed a hybrid of hip-hop, house, club and hip-house. The sound is exemplified by an 8/4 beat structure, a tempo that ranges from 126 to 130 beats per minute. There might be sampled break beats of the songs, repetitive hooks of well known hip-hop and R&B songs, as well as the use of weird pop culture references and of course, most notably, there’s the kind of raw sex talk that would make Luke from 2 Live Crew blush and Bill O’Reilly’s head explode.
Besides being one of the pioneers of the scene and a top-notch DJ and producer, Scottie B also runs one of the most successful B-more Club record labels, Unruly Records (unrulyonline.com), with his partner, Shawn Caesar. Since 1994, they have been putting out the best releases in B-more Club, and their label roster now reads like a Who’s Who of the scene, with artists such as Rod Lee, Blaqstarr, KW Griff, DJ Class, Say Wut and K-Swift.
This fall, Scottie tours Europe but he plans on having more in his crate than club. "I know everybody will say Scottie B = club music, but I play more than that, you know what I mean," he says. "And I try to get out of that hole to a point. Of course, I want 'em to know who the best guy for that job is, but it's not the only job that I can do."
✔ Cullen Stalin (Taxlo Baltimore, MAD DECENT):
Take it from me, this guy is so busy (and so humble) that he does not even worry about putting a "Bio" on his Myspace profile. Real talk...
...In fact, when you are known around the world for crushing parties with the best of the best (Feads, Diplo, MSTRKRFT, Tittsworth, The Rapture, Treasure Fingers, Nick Catchdubs, Nadastrom, Spank Rock, M.I.A., Simian Mobile Disco, and so many more!) you don't give a flying fuck if your profile lacks a bio!!! That's what I love about this dude! HAH!
Cullen works extremely hard in Baltimore to showcase performers and DJ's who are fresh on the scene and on their grind everyday (much like REMIX DISCO[tech]™ does in DE!) and he continues to keep his finger on the pulse of everything that rocks in the world of music. But after a 7+ year run with one of the east coast's hottest parties, the Baltimore DJ and promoter now has the world of music coming to him for a shot at his now-legendary events in Baltimore.
Knowing this, can you imagine the crazy amount of fresh sounds that will be coming at you while Cullen is on the turntables on September 30th??? I can, that's why I want you all to be there!!! HAHA
Needless to say this will be a highlight of the fall season at REMIX DISCO[tech] and we have not one but two incredible guest DJ's that night to set the place on fire. The drink specials will be cheap as always ($3 Bomb Shots $2.50 Coronas) and admission IS STILL FREE ALL NIGHT!!!
You won't see a party like this in DE for a long time!
Spark Magazine's "On the Scene" photographers and a video crew will be there to record the mayhem!
