Fine Arts Gallery - Eye & Mind: A Legacy of Art Collecting at Vanderbilt University at Vanderbilt University
Presented to celebrate the opening of Vanderbilt's newly renovated and expanded galleries, "Eye & Mind: A Legacy of Art Collecting at Vanderbilt University" illustrates the breadth and depth of the collection, now in its fifty-third year. The updated presentation for 2010 features works of art ranging from Baroque Sculpture to Pop Art.
Highlights include the Samuel H. Kress Collection of Renaissance paintings, on view in its entirety. Other significant works of art include a large Dutch landscape by Jan Both from the 17th century and an 18th-century Italian harbor scene from the school of Francesco Guardi. Milton Avery, Isabel Bishop, Childe Hassam, George Inness, Robert Rauschenberg, Edward Steichen, Andy Warhol, and other American artists are represented by outstanding examples of their paintings, photographs, and prints. Vintage drawings, etchings, engravings, lithographs, and serigraphs are strongly represented as well. Highlights include works by Lucas Cranach the Elder, Albrecht D¸rer, and Rembrandt van Rijn.
