GSSN - Elizabeth Weems Discusses Organic Gardening

Elizabeth Weems, who has been growing vegetables organically at her local farm since 1998, will give an overview of organic gardening/farming. She will talk about each season in the growing cycle, starting with the fall (tilling or not, cover crops, etc.), winter activities, spring (soil tests, organic fertilizers, organic seed as opposed to dna-altered, etc.), and summer (dealing with harmful insects and disease, weeds, and harvesting). Elizabeth studied organic farming at Central Carolina Community College during the fall and winter of 2000 and completed an internship at Sustenance Farm in Chatham County, NC. She has attended many conferences on sustainable agriculture given by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association. Please note that this meeting has been scheduled on a Saturday afternoon to make it easier for Elizabeth.
