Scottish Country Dance for Adults (Mountain View Scottish Country Dance Class)

The Mountain View class of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society welcomes everyone to come along and try out this energetic, social dance form. Scottish Country Dance is the traditional ballroom dancing of Scotland, also danced at ceilidhs ("kay-lees"). Typically danced in groups of eight people, SCD exercises the mind as well as the body. The class teachers are fully certified by the RSCDS and have years of teaching experience. The focus of the first half of the year is footwork, upper body movement, and basic dance figures, progressing to more complex dances over the course of the year. The repetoire draws on the many thousands of Scottish Country Dances available through the RSCDS. The class joins with others across the Bay Area to host monthly dance parties with live music, usually attended by around 100 people. The Mountain View class also hosts four smaller parties each year with live music, plus a non-dancing social event to celebrate the winter holidays. Members of the class also have an opportunity to perform at one or more of the Highland Games held each year in the Bay Area. By joining us, you are not just joining a class, you are becoming part of a community. No experience or partner required. Wear ballet practice shoes, jazz shoes, ghillies, or tennis shoes. Bring a water bottle - you will need it! Beginners should join the class before the end of October. Experienced Scottish country dancers are welcome to join at any time.
