Skinny Bitch is a in your face "diet" book... they cleverly disguised it and it is truly a vegan conversion book. It's loaded with profanity, so if you aren't cool with that it may not be the book for you, but if you can get past that it is a good read and definitely promotes veganism and says there is even room for vegan junk food too! The authors are heavy on mock meats in the meal plan, but probably just to ease the transition for omnivores. As always the book is NOT mandatory for attending the potluck, we will just discuss common themes from within the book and enjoy good food. And, you don't have to attend all the bookclubs or any number, come to one, come to many, come to all, whatever you want. This is always a kid friendly house. And, if you are male and don't want to be caught reading Skinny Bitch, there is also "Skinny Bastard" which is fairly identical... Perhaps if you are expecting or planning to be expecting you could try the "bun in the oven" version, I'm sure it wouldn't be too different. ;) Next month will be Obligate Carnivore, available at vegancats.com. This is a must read for any veggie, pets or not, and any omni with pets! It details what is in pet food and goes through every common argument against vegan pets and why it isn't a good argument, or can be gone around! While your there you may want to get some pet food too! (I can do a seitan cat food demonstration night of the potluck too. My kitties love the stuff...) Further notes: Omnivore's Dilemna had been named as a book we would be reading, this has been changed, I'm currently reading it, and it is HORRIBLE! It advocates eating meat. And, after visiting a feedlot and factory farmed cows he takes his family to McDonald's to "experience" the meal produced. The book is not good, please don't support the author by buying it...
