Banana Bag & Bodice is an ensemble theater company founded in 1999 by artistic compatriots Jason Craig and Jessica Jelliffe. Driven by a fearful desire to throw ourselves into the unknown, the difficult and the raw, they employ self-satire and irreverence to push the boundaries of traditional theatre. Their uniquely poetic yet contemporary voice moves beyond the quotidian and shines a critical, yet ambiguous, light on commonly accepted social mores. BB&B uses original text and music composition to create compelling, visceral, whimsical experiences that provoke and inspire our live audiences with laugher, discomfort and self-reflection. They are known for intricate, intimate and complex design of set, sound and costume that according to Time Out New York " trashes even its big budget competition ".
BEOWULF

After a successful smash-hit run last April at Abrons Arts Center, Banana Bag & Bodice brings their award-winning epic SongPlay back to some of the Lower East Side's most exciting and prestigious music venues. Digging into the roots of the original epic poem, this re-imagined version of Beowulf - A Thousand Years of Baggage hearkens back to the raw and rowdy style of storytelling in the old Scandinavian mead halls - with a passion for fierce poetry and a pint of thick beer.
