Walk in the footsteps of President James Madison and Dolley Madison as you take a guided tour of their beloved Montpelier's 200-acre old-growth Landmark Forest. Trees in the "Big Woods" are up to 250 years old. The undisturbed forest floor hosts a large population of wildlife & native plant species. This remnant of the original hardwood forests that once blanketed the Piedmont was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1987 by the U.S. Department of Interior.
The two-hour guided tour begins at the Montpelier Visitor Center promptly at 2:00 p.m. Comfortable shoes and clothing are suggested.
