Captain Bullwackers (Monterey, CA)

This elusive pirate -- merely a legend some claim -- has been heard late at night as the moon climbs high above the clouds. Waving a cutlass, he fights the scurrilous marauders who chased him across the oceans to the California coastline many lifetimes past. They say he died bravely defending his ship full of stolen gold -- yet his body was never found. Some whisper Bullwacker survived the attack, crawling ashore under cover of night and taking on the identity of a crippled fisherman named B.W. Instead of gold and booty, his treasure haul became nets heavy with the freshest catch of the Bay. He made quite a name for himself, old B.W. and lived for many more years. Then, on the night he gave up his last breath, it’s said pieces of gold washed up on the sandy shores just beyond Cannery Row. No matter how or when Bullwacker actually died, the fabled waters of Monterey Bay make a right good resting place -- for pirate or fisherman
