Let's meet at Harvest Moon at 1 PM for lunch prior to the movie. If you can't make it for lunch, meet us at the theater by 2:30 so we can get refreshments and our "good" seats. This is a very popular series of movies, and the theater can get quite busy. Movie synopsis: One of the most beloved films of all time -- The Wizard of Oz -- is being presented at The State Sun. March 21 by The Modesto Film Society. Based on the children's book by L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz is certainly one of the most memorable of all family films and contains some of filmdom's most charming scenes -- Dorothy's trek to Oz with the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and the affable Scarecrow -- to some of the scariest (the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys!). Released in 1939, The Wizard of Oz took two top Oscars in 1940 for Best Music, Original Score and Best Music, Original Song (for "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"). The film also made stars out of Judy Garland (Dorothy Gale), Ray Bolger (Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (Cowardly Lion) and Jack Haley (Tin Man) with unforgettable performances by seasoned pros Frank Morgan (Professor Marvel/ The Wizard), Billie Burke (Glinda the Good Witch) and Margaret Hamilton (the Wicked Witch of the West). And who can forget Toto, the Norwich terrier at the heart of the story and Dorothy's constant companion on her travels to the magical land of Oz -- and back to their home in Kansas.
