Fall 2009 - Spring 2010 Schedule

September
Labor Day Parade
Tuesday and Thursday

The children will have fun with crafts and games as they celebrate Labor Day and learn about Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore. At the end of the session they will use all they have learned and made to participate in a traditional Labor Day Parade and take with them what they have made for the parade.

November
Happy Birthday Harry
Wednesday and Friday

The Griot will regale the children In memory of Harry, they will make a take-home present that they can enjoy. The session will end with the children singing Happy Birthday to Harry and eating cake* and ice cream (*fruit cups will be available). Griot: poet, praise singer, wandering musician, a repository of oral tradition

December
Kwanzaa Celebration
December 1 - 18

Kwanzaa is a non-religious African American holiday that celebrates family, community, and culture. It is celebrated for seven days: December 26 - January 1. The seven principles will be shared with the children.

February
Black History Celebration
Monday and Wednesday

With games, crafts and songs the children will celebrate Black History Month learning about Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore.

March
Womens History Celebration
Wednesday and Thursday

From adventurer Amelia Earhart to civil rights leader Harriette V. Moore to computer pioneer Grace Hopper to Novelist Zora Neale Hurston, discover wo-men who have made a difference in people\'s lives

April
National Poetry Month
Tuesday and Thursday

The children will be allowed to relax as they enjoy an hour of spoken word and music in the quiet of the Griots tent
