The festival features two competitions that have achieved international acclaim thanks to their high quality. About sixty short films and a dozen feature films are usually selected.

The films are screened - and often have their Italian or world premiere - without being divided into categories, in original language with subtitles in Italian and English.

Colpe di Stato - State (T)error

This out-of-competition season, now at its fourth edition, has increased in the number of works screened and in the audiences interest.
A selection of documentaries that depict crimes, injustice and slaughters under the banner of freedom, security and religion. This sort of deliberate terror is used by different so-called democratic governments against civilians, to ban dissent or slant news coverage. These screenings mark an interesting but disturbing route around the world. And help us remember that the truth is far from the softened and soothing news the media deliver us everyday.

Retrospective

The festival dedicates a part of the programme to a single author or to a relevant period in the cinema history, tryng to find out new points of view, forgotten or unknown pieces of history. It happened in 2004 with Le Cercle Cinemane by Truffaut, in 2005 through the reconstitution of part of the programme of the Festival du Film Maudit dated back to 1949, in 2006 with the homage paid to Godard and his Histoire(s) du cinema and in 2007 with the retrospective dedicated to the Italian filmmakers Ciprì and Maresco.
