Walking Event:

Follow in the footsteps of the pioneers along the Wilderness Trail and through the Cumberland Gap, the first great gateway to the west. Scenic vistas, cascading streams, and lush forests offer an opportunity to experience the Southern Appalachians up close. The 10km walk follows the Wilderness Road route through Cumberland Gap at elevation 1,616 feet, by the trail to Gap Cave, the Daniel Boone Trailhead, through the quaint mountain town of Cumberland Gap, Tenn. with a historic mill and a railroad station, past the Civil War era iron furnace, and back over the gap to the finish. A 2km out-and-back option goes to the intersection marker of three states, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. An A-Z program event. Walkers who spend the night at the Cumberland Gap Inn at Cumberland Gap, TN, are eligible for a discount if they identify themselves as volksmarchers doing the walk.
