Description For at least 2000 years, the Oleta River has been a major source of food, water and transportation for its human inhabitants ranging from the Tequesta Indians, Spanish Explorers and the present day Miccosukee and Seminole Indians. On this naturalist-guided trip, canoeists will observe herons, white ibis, and osprey and explore a tropical hardwood hammock in East Greynolds Park. Step back in time as you explore this natural river system in northeast Miami-Dade County. What should I bring with me on the tour? Bring plenty of water, at least 2-quarts per person. Protection from the sun including sun block with a high SPF (15 or higher), hats, and sunglasses are important. Snacks or a light lunch will make your day more enjoyable as there are no food options inside the park. Closed-toe shoes required.
