Description
Titled LIGHT PLAY this new collection of images from Peter Solness features Aboriginal rock art illuminations from locations on Sydney's coastline and in Sydney Harbour, playful interpretations of the landscape and personal interpretations of portraiture.
This is a special exhibition, which displays a new level of confidence in the already proven illumination skills of this master photographer. The images are not heavily tweaked in post-production as it may appear - rather they are created in camera.
Solness mainly works alone, his lighting method requiring a methodical and patient approach: often it can take a whole night to create one image. The process is slow, however Peter embraces it as a kind of meditation and the resulting playfulness in these images belies this long process. The artist expresses joy and the spirit of childhood as he waves his handheld torch like a wand, drawing hearts and circles of life into the natural world he celebrates so lovingly.
OPENING HOURS: Open Weekdays 8am-12am; Sat 10am-12am; Sun 11am-5pm
