Description
Batmania asks the hard questions. What were the events that led to our foundation? Do we have a founding father? Does it matter?

Batmania combines contemporary art with historical artefacts. Treasured artworks and rare manuscripts from the State Library of Victoria's collection, some of the earliest and most important documents relating to the European settlement of Victoria, are on display.

Modernist works 'John Batman' 1959 and 'John Batman and Eliza Callaghan' 1971 by Albert Tucker, on loan from Heide Museum of Modern Art, are on show. A commissioned work, 'Kings of Batmania' by sculptor Chris Langton is a special inclusion.

Melbourne's foundation history and the myths surrounding it come under the spotlight for you to decide.
