HOSTEL STAY AND BACKPACK TRIP

This is a trip for everyone that asked "when are we going back to a hostel again"? I have called the owner of Mountain Harbour bed and breakfast in Elk Park Tn, near Roan Mountain State Park. It will be a 154 mile trip from Knoxville to the hostel. The cost per person is 20.00 and we have the whole hiker cabin to our group privately. http://www.mountainharbour.net/hikerscabin.htm Here is a link to the cabin it says it sleeps 8 but we can squeeze 10 in on this trip. Yes, some of us will have to sleep on either cots or your Thermarest on the floor but hey, we are hikers right? We can make do for one night! The next morning Saturday the 13th we will leave the hostel at our leisure and start our hike 8 miles north on the Appalachian Trail to the 2 year old Mountaineer Shelter. Here is a link with info and pictures of the shelter it is in a really nice area and has a loft. I thought it was one of the coolest shelters on the AT. I have been there and loved it! http://www.cs.utk.edu/~dunigan/at/m.php?wpt=Mountainee Please remember before signing up this is a WINTER BACKPACK and February in this area can get very cold so if you have never winter backpacked please DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS TRIP we are not hiking any major elevation, the shelter sits at 3470ft and it's a rolling hike to get there with no real major steep climbs but this trip is not for beginners. I rate it at intermediate in difficulty. We do not have to be there on Friday at any specific time, so if you can't get off work on Friday you can come whey you can. We can not check in before 12. We will have to check out by 12 on Saturday. Last time we went to a hostel we took food and cooked it. We can do the same here or there is a steakhouse down the street I am thinking of taking food and cooking at the hostel. There is a wood burning fireplace in the cabin and plenty of firewood and alcohol is permitted. I need to have your $20.00 per person collected before February 1st once you RSVP YES an address to send your check for $20.00 will be e-mailed to you. If we cancel or reschedule we will give a full refund to paid members otherwise there is no refund. On Friday morning at 9:00AM we will meet at the Cracker Barrel on Strawberry Plains Pike Exit # 398 off I-40 and have breakfast before heading up if you want to meet us there add Cracker Barrel to your RSVP We look forward to seeing you there!!
