Book Signing and Presentation: "Cemeteries of the Smokies"

Enjoy a captivating presentation from Blount County native, Dr. Gail Palmer, as she discusses her latest publication "Cemeteries of the Smokies", recently published by Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She will tell stories about the people who lived in the Smoky Mountains before they became Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Some stories will be funny, some sad, but all based on fact and true to the people who lived in these mountains.

This book includes information about more than 151 cemeteries throughout the park in Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carollina. The book details information such as GPS coordinates for each cemetery, directions, lists of names of individuals buried in each cemetery and stories about these folks and about the region in which they lived, offering insights into the hardships. attitudes, economies, and beliefs of the people who called the Smokies home. This long awaited, landmark work has color photographs, detailed lists and charts, and an index of family names.
The detailed directions are perfect for hikers who want a new place to hike to, or who want to know more about those cemeteries they happen upon as they are hiking in the Smokies.

Some of Palmer's other works include "Smoky Mountain Tales: Feuds, Murder & Mayhem, Vols. 1 & 2; The Midwives' Quilt: A Tale of Conflict & Intrigue in the Smoky Mountains, & GSMNP: Legends, Eminent Domain. She has also compiled two DVDs, "Sacred Places of the Cemeteries" and "When Mama Was the Doctor: Mountain Medicine Women."
