The 133rd Bok Kai Festival Parade, celebrating the Year of the Snake, will take place March 16, 2013. The parade begins at 11am, on the corner of 6th and D Streets in Marysville.

One of the oldest parades in the state of California, the Bok Kai parade hosts lion dancers, cultural performances, and a variety of floats. The parade ends with the beautiful 175 feet long Bok Kai parade dragon named, “Fook Lung” (or Lucky Dragon) who for decades, has run thru the parade thanks to volunteerism of Service Men and Women from Beale Air Force Base.

At the parade route’s end stands the Bok Kai temple built in Marysville’s historic Chinatown in 1888. The temple worships the Chinese God of Bok Eye, the water God, to protect the riverfront city from droughts, flooding, etc. The Bok Kai temple is the only one of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.
