New York: Finger Lakes, Waterfalls, and Wineries

We will depart Massachusetts, stopping for lunch in Albany before visiting the head of Skeaneateles Lake. Well go directly for Cayuga Lake, birding the eastern shore of the lake, and thence to Ithaca. Well explore Sapsucker Woods and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, where well tour the visitors center, head west to Buttermilk Falls State Park, and thence up the western shore of Cayuga Lake. On the way north to Seneca Falls, we will visit Taughannock Falls State Park and Cayuga Lake State Park. Well awaken early for an extended look at the beauty of Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. Birds seen on our last fall visit included pied-billed grebes, tundra swans, snow geese, American coots, canvasbacks, northern pintails, northern shovelers, bald eagles, and more.
