A Workshop for current high school sophomores and juniors interested in Improving foundational knowledge of English grammar Discerning how to select and use rhetoric Developing voice in the personal narrative Editing for brevity (200-800 words) and impact Manhattan area students who are looking to boost their grammar skills to prepare for ACT/SAT testing and who are getting a jumpstart writing college application essays may find this workshop helpful. Participants will be asked to respond to several writing prompts from the Common App as well as essay topics from selective universities. Participants may also choose to write specifically for a college application of their interest.  Participants will submit and share everything in Googledoc and utilize Google Hangout when possible during times they may be away from Manhattan. I firmly believe the creative process of writing happens in community. While I have taught college English for several years, I will not be your only editor. You will have the perspective of others in our group as well.  At the culmination of this 6-week workshop, students will have 3-5 essays in their portfolio that are application ready. (We will not meet the week of July 5.)
