Vincent Giarrano's new series of 17 New York City paintings explores the dynamic between Soho's old-cast iron facades and cobblestone streets, and the modern lifestyle with its hip inhabitants and trendy stores housed in older architecture. His ability to capture a scene with immediacy and freshness comes from years of drawing and painting en plein air. His vibrant brushwork catches the light that perfectly characterizes Soho's architecture and the vitality of the neighborhood. Giarrano is a modern genre painter with a more contemporary eye. "My approach to realism is to have my work look painterly up close but at a distance, appear very realistic. I also like my image to be close to how our eyes see, not all in focus like a camera but with focal points and softer, peripheral vision," says Giarrano. Starting many of his oils on location prior to completing them from photographs in his studio, his New York series has a new complexity that explores the relation between people and the environment of the city.

David Dunlop will be represented by views of Grand Central Station in New York City.Capturing the urban rhythms of an iconic location, Dunlop's figures are in motion, in transit, and you feel the congregation of movement. He has borrowed colors from the historical palettes of the Renaissance and the shimmer of color as shapes flow in eloquent interplay with exquisite technique allows his vision perfect expression. A nationally known artist and teacher, Dunlop has lectured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and he recently produced a DVD of painting landscapes using the materials, techniques and philosophies of the 19th century masters.
