Garaj Mahal's sound is a convergence of jazz-style improvisation, mystical Middle-Eastern atmospheres, and danceable American funk. This quartet combines a century of musical experience to create a sound that's always new, freshly infused with a wide spectrum of musical expression, and always smoking hot. Fans return to experience the band again and again because they know they will always hear something new and progressive from these four first-class musicians. Garaj Mahal features guitar and sitar virtuoso Fareed Haque, world-renowned bass master and educator Kai Eckhardt, gospel-inspired funky jazz keyboardist Eric Levy, and genetically-funky Sean Rickman. "It's been no secret amongst Mahalics [] that the San Francisco-Chicago quartet deals in some of the most perplexing arrangements and rubber-burning grooves of any band around." (Josh Potter, Jambase) Not On Mars is a five piece Madison based band that blends rock, blues, jazz, and funk in an improvisational setting. Not On Mars has historically been an instrumental band, but this is changing. Balancing structure and free improvisation, Not On Mars weaves a sonic tapestry of rhythmic groove and melodic coolness.
