Location: Marquee Theater, Union South, 1308 W. Dayton St.
One of the strangest films ever released, this co-production of England’s Hammer Studios and Columbia Pictures begins as a street gang picture (Reed plays a particularly vicious “Teddy Boy”) and evolves into an anti-nuclear sci-fi melodrama! Director (and La Crosse, WI native) Losey’s haunting, memorable and wildly unpredictable gem miraculously never descends into camp. Losey’s restored director’s cut will be screened.
