Meshell Ndegeocello and James "Blood" Ulmer's Memphis Blood featuring Vernon Reid

Join us for an evening with two distinctly inventive artists. Renowned bassist, singer, songwriter and 10-time Grammy nominee Meshell Ndegeocello writes, records and performs unpredictable, boundary-defying music in rock, jazz, funk, soul and more. Her killer band features Deantoni Parks on drums, Jebin Bruni on keys and Chris Bruce on guitar.
Meshell's 10th album-Pour une ame souveraine (For a sovereign soul) - A dedication to Nina Simone-arrives October 9. It is a luminous collection of songs that pays homage to a music legend and features special guests Sinead O'Conner, Lizz Wright, Valerie June, Toshi Reagon and Cody ChesnuTT.Listen to a trackfrom the coming album at NPR's "All Songs Considered" blog.

Harmolodic guitarist, blues singer and composer James "Blood" Ulmer brings his thrilling Memphis Blood crew featuring master axman Vernon Reid (of Living Color), along with a full band featuring violin, mandolin, keys, harmonica, drums and bass. Ulmer draws upon a spectrum of music forms free jazz to deep-funk to bebop to avant-soul and beyond. The New York Times calls Mr. Ulmer's guitar tone "... a gasping, metallic cry, that expresses everything from out-in-the-woods loneliness to nail-chewing, urban anxiety."
