Description: THE RING CYCLE: RE-MIXED In conjunction with the L.A. Opera, HeArt Project teenagers will interpret Richard Wagner's challenging 15-hour opera "Der Ring das Nibelungen", also known as "The Ring Cycle". How can contemporary youth culture and new technologies re-imagine Wagner's vision in the 21st century? Can 21st century innovation and technology illuminate connections to the grand visions of the past? Can the epic struggles of ancient myth be re-configured for an accelerated globalized culture? Guided by professional artists, our students will reflect on concepts of innovation, technology and grand visions. In 2010, over 50 cultural and educational institutions in greater Los Angeles will take part in a citywide "Ring Festival/LA." HeArt Project students will contribute their voices to the citywide engagement with this influential 19th century artwork. Public presentations of student work will be held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center. Partner: L.A. Opera
