Bollani solo is something of a musical whirlwind, playing through jazz history from ragtime to free improv, and taking in tango, popular song and a background in classical music on the way. At its heart, though, his solo explorations are the expression of a profound musicality, and a heart-on-sleeve enthusiasm that communicates directly with the audience.
His exuberant duets with the extrovert Sardinian accordionist Antonello Salis - an intuitively brilliant player described by Bollani as a genius - bring the warmly Mediterranean essence of an Italian approach to jazz to the UK for the first time.
