Event details: Barts Choir - Mendelssohn's Elijah
Description
London's largest regular choir return to the Royal Albert Hall with Mendelssohn's powerful and dramatic re-telling of the Old Testament story of the prophet Elijah.
Mendelssohn built on the English oratorio tradition created by Handel and Haydn, and from its first performance Elijah has held its own place in that repertoire. The 200th anniversary of the composer's birth has brought about a revival and reassessment of his music, which remains as fresh and exciting to sing and hear as when it was first written.
Ivor Setterfield, recently seen again on BBC television as mentor to Drum & Bass star Goldie, conducts.
St Bartholomew's Hospital Choral Society
