Walking Event:

Mon-Thurs, 6am-10pm; Fri, 6am-midnight; Sat, 8 - midnight, & Sun, 8-6. The trail wanders through the Lompoc Civic Center, by downtown murals, residential areas and along flower fields. It is flat, paved and wheelchairs will have difficulty at some intersections. Public restrooms are available along the route at both Ryon and Beattle Parks. Because the extra 3 km option is up a steep dirt trail, it earns an AVA rating of 2+. However, hikers who choose it are rewarded with a beautiful panorama of the valley at the turnaround. This event walks to the Site of Original Mission and Remaining Ruins of Buildings of Misión la Purísima Conceptión de María Santísima (California Historic Landmark #925). The site is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places. For those who prefer a simple "out and back," a route from the parking lot at Amtrak's Surf Beach stop to the south gate of Vandenberg AFB is available (Riverwalk and Railroad Heritage). The route offers a beautiful view of the estuary where the Santa Ynez River meets the ocean.
