Denny Earnest brings his rootsy rhythm and blues music to the cafe on Saturday, November 28th at 7:30pm. Denny Earnest's smoky voice and guitar work have drawn comparisons to Eric Clapton, though his range includes deftly played versions of blues, swing, country, and rock classics from Frank Sinatra, Bob Marley, Jimmy Hendrix, and Merle Haggard. In the 1980's, Denny headlined the popular country swing band Deadly Earnest and the Honky Tonk Heroes that was on the Pacific Arts/Warner label owned by ex-Monkee Michael Nesmith. Earnest now concentrates on writing music for TV and film, including Friends, Gideon's Crossing, Judging Amy, the movie Blue Crush, MTV's Real World, Fox's North Shore, Simple Life #2, Turner Network productions, and many daytime shows such as Passions. His three solo albums, Wishbone, Old Red, and his latest release, Songbook, are marked by his accomplished blues guitar playing (reminiscent of Ry Cooder). In addition to his original material, Denny also plays classic tunes by Tampa Red, Blind Blake, & Robert Johnson. Earnest just released a 21-song blues album on Abaco records entitled "Delta Blues" and featuring local musicians Bob Britten on piano and Mike Gillan on percussion.
