Liverpool and the Titanic
2012 marks the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic - a liner with an enduring relationship to its home port of Liverpool.
EXHIBITION
A 5-day exhibition takes a unique look at Liverpool's links to the tragedy. Based primarily around J. Bruce Ismay, Captain Smith and Captain Rostron, explore a range of fascinating and haunting stories relating to these major local residents.
See original newsreel footage from 1912; telegrams from the Carpathia and White Star Line; local newspapers' reporting of the event; Captain Rostron's uniform; White Star Line posters; and much more.

THEATRE
Two evenings of poetic, haunting and beautiful new monologues bringing back to life Liverpool's crew and passengers aboard the ill-fated Titanic.
Despite never having visited her home port, Titanic and Liverpool are inextricably linked: from her Captain, to her Lookout, and from her owner to her passengers, Liverpool was at the very heart of the liner.
Developed with the Theatre in the Rough Festival and Merseyside Maritime Museum.

AUTHOR'S TALK
Based around his new book, "Titanic: The Last Night of a Small Town", Dr. John Welshman reconstructs a moment-by-moment account of this floating community. Who survived, and why, and who perished?
John Welshman is senior lecturer in History at Lancaster University.

LIVE MUSIC
4 July, 12pm: TIME ASHORE
Time Ashore is an exciting Liverpool-based folk band.
From sea songs to Irish folk, the they switch between fiddles, mandolin, whistles, recorder, acoustic guitar, vocals and bodhran to offer a vibrant and flexible mix of hauntingly beautiful music.
Time Ashore will be playing from their repertoire of sea songs and Liverpool classics, such as Leaving of Liverpool and Maggie May.
7 July, 12pm: THE MERSEY RIGGER
The Mersey Rigger is a Liverpool-based folk and maritime band.
They are currently touring their latest work, "Titanic: Queen of the Ocean", a new and original folk musical telling the story of the Titanic from the point of view of its passengers based on historical research.
As a working traditional folk/shanty quartet, they also play an extensive repertoire of traditional Liverpool and World sea-songs.
