[Disregard the date & time stamps on this one, guys. I've decided to start planning NOW for next year. This meetup that I have initiated will be ongoing. The purpose? To collect a large group of 200+ volunteers who will help us gather signatures for the governor's race in 2010! As you know, the libertarians don't have ballot status. We have never run a gubernatorial candidate who pulled 50,000 or more votes. That is why we always have to petition to get our candidates on the ballot when we decide to enter a race. The statewide signature requirements for the gubernatorial race is 15,000 minimum --- much more than that if we want to withstand challenges. Even if our gubernatorial candidate does not win the election, if he or she pulls 50,000 or more votes, we will have ballot status for four years! If you sincerely want to be part of this effort, join this meetup. Email me your name, address, phone number to: Riverhead1795@yahoo.com. I'm going to create a special database of 200 or more volunteers who will go out there and commit to getting 20 signatures or more. As this will be a statewide race, petitioning is easy. ANY REGISTERED VOTER IN NEW YORK STATE CAN SIGN THE PETITION. In addition, when we run other libertarian candidates for office in the various municipalities and/or counties, we can easily combine names. The candidate for governor can appear on a petition for, say, a libertarian running for an assembly district in New York City, an office in Suffolk or Nassau County. There can be variations of all kinds when all the candidates are running on a libertarian line only. Okay, this is the game plan. Hope I can count on you. Also, it doesn't matter that the person lives in New York City, upstate New York or out on Long Island. If any New Yorker wants to be part of this effort, please refer them to this meetup! Thank you.
