NEW INFORMATION - I got some more information from the NEOHBC organizer and there will be room to handle a large group. The established campgrounds at the Triple Forks site in the Minister Creek area. I thought we might be too large a group but there appears to be many estblished campsites in the area we will backpack to. There are 12 other people on the NEOHBC list so we should be a total group of about 20 people. And half are from the Pgh area so we will work out a carpool too. The plan is still to drive up New Years Eve so it will easy to keep your bubbly cold. We will stay in the Minister Creek primitive campground on the Eve and meet our friends fro Ohio the next AM. So we get to sleep in! I will need to know your RSVP by Monday the 28th (preferably earlier). Please let me know if you have any questions and please review the information on the message board about winter trips. Thanks This is a 7 mile winter backpack along Minister Creek in the Allegheny National Forest up'ere in Warren,PA. There is a larger group going with the Northeast Ohio Backpacking Club. They planned on meeting on New Years in the AM but I thought that it would be nice to drive up the night before instead of waking at 6AM to drive up there. The actual backpack starts on Jan 1st and will cover 7 miles over a day and a half. We can return later in the evening on the second or camp out a third night and head back early on the 3rd. I am open to suggestions however if we finish early due to lack of snow I will plan on coming home that Saturday night. This area tends to get a lot of snow and backpacking on snowshoes can be very tiring. If you want to attend this trip you will need to have or rent snowshoes from REI and have an appropriate sleeping bag. I have a winter tent that my 2 guests can use if they need it. I will use a tarp and bivy sac. So if you are interested please send an email and we can discuss the details. You Can also Google the neohbackpackinglub site to see who else is attending.
