Description
“Three Dreamers” is a two man, one woman group art show featuring the work of George Mendoza, Virginia Maria Romero, and Paul Hoylen, Jr. The exhibit opens with an artist reception on Friday, September 5, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The work will remain on display through Saturday, October 25th.

Mendoza, Romero and Hoylen are internationally recognized, self-taught artists. They are known for their outsider, visionary artwork. Collectively, their art is spiritually motivated, mystical, symbolic, and has vibrantly colored imagery. Each draws inspiration from nature.

Mendoza is a legally blind artist, whose painting defies categorization. His paintings are bold and range from scenes of tranquility to chaos. Eyes are a recurring motif in Mendoza’s work. Romero’s work is distinctive in its original contemporary approach to age-old formats. Her works reflect on the mystical essence of life utilizing mythology and archetypal dream-like imagery. Hoylen is a storyteller through a visual media. His work is based in a folk art style that is whimsical and somewhat primitive in nature.

The Cultural Center, 501 N. Main Street, is located at the north end of the downtown mall. The exhibit is free. Galleries are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information about exhibits, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154 or visit the Center’s web site at http://museums.las-cruces.org.
