Description
A new exhibition titled “Hour after Hour of Thought and Analysis,” a large site-specific installation by artist Susan Murrell, opens Friday, June 6 at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. The opening reception will be part of the First Friday Ramble from 5-7 p.m. This exhibit will be on display in the Main Gallery through Saturday, August 16.

Inspired by natural forms and scientific rhetoric, Susan Murrell creates installations utilizing a wide variety of media, including watercolor, ink, polymer clay and shadow boxes. This exhibition explores the acquisition of knowledge as well as the desire to understand and create works of art. “I use the visual vernacular associated with textbooks and the sciences to parody the measurement of creative output,” says Murrell. Originally from Las Cruces, Susan Murrell currently resides in Oregon.

Concurrently at the Museum of Art, visitors can see “Numinous Space; Towards an Architecture of Contemplation,” works by William Helm, and “The Architecture of Time,” works by Dana Kroos and Laura Scandrett. All exhibits and receptions at the Museum, located at 491 N. Main St. in the downtown mall, are accessible and free to the public.
