Event details: Exhibit: The Architecture of Time
Description
Works by Laura Scandrett are charcoal on paper and inspired by the 1948 edition of The Book of Knowledge, a children’s encyclopedia set. This series of black and white drawings is further unified by an exploration of pattern and moments of reflection. “In my drawings I am exploring the contrast and coexistence of the natural world and the technological or man-made realm,” says Scandrett. Laura Scandrett currently resides in Santa Fe.
Dana Kroos presents a series of stoneware sculptures exploring the relationship between people and the landscape. According to Kroos, “My work aims to blur the boundaries between the architecture of the body and the man-made architectures of buildings, boats, planes and other vessels.” Her ceramic pieces use symbolism to tell unconventional narratives, inspired in part by Aboriginal Australian skeletal maps and Mung tapestries. Dana Kroos currently resides in Las Cruces.
Concurrently at the Museum of Art, visitors can see “Numinous Space; Towards an Architecture of Contemplation,” works by William Helm, and “Hour after Hour of Thought and Analysis,” works by Susan Murrell. All exhibits and receptions at the Museum, located at 491 N. Main St. in the downtown mall, are accessible and free to the public.
