Event details: The East Lansing Film Festival
Description
The East Lansing Film Festival, the largest and most diverse in Michigan, is moving from its traditional spring dates to the fall of 2010.The new dates are November 10 - 18, 2010. The ELFF board of directors and director Susan W. Woods made this change because they found that the audience members, especially students, were diminishing due to the competition with the Michigan State Mens Basketball games and March Madness. Another factor was the dire economic straits being felt in the state of Michigan. By moving to the fall, ELFF will have more time to fundraise and create more events that can bring in much-needed revenue. Hopefully by then, the state and the country will be recovering from the recent economic downturn.
The East Lansing Film Society Film Series will continue this fall to bring stimulating, exciting, informative and moving independent films. Some of the film titles being considered include the Academy Award winning Japanese film,Departures, the evocative film about the annual slaughtering of dolphins in Japan, The Cove, the unique Tulpan, and many others that have screened throughout the country except here.
The next fundraising event will be a Rummage Sale. A notice will go out to ask for donations. Please be generous.
The 48/5 Film Contest will take place the weekend of September 25 - 27 after a long summer hiatus.
The East Lansing Film Festival organization is very excited by its move to the fall and the opportunities to improve its offerings.
Because ELFF has experienced severe economic troubles, director Woods was laid off. She will continue to work for the festival on a volunteer basis. Please support
