Thanks to the Chicago Bears, the NFF Chicago Metro Chapter Awards Ceremony will be at Halas Hall (1000 Football Drive, Lake Forest), which is rarely open to the public. Thanks to a dollar-for-dollar match by Bears Care, $20,000 in college scholarships will be provided. Details are provided below.
Monday, February 23, 2009 from 3:30-6pm at Halas Hall (1000 Football Drive in Lake Forest).
$20,000 in college scholarships will be provided to Chicago area high school seniors that have excelled on the football field, in the classroom and in the community. Scholarship recipients were nominated by their high school football coach or athletic director, and the six award recipients are Jacob Cooke (Bradley-Bourbonnais), Damone Flowers (South Shore), Martin Hopkins (St. Rita), Mark Kachmer (St. Francis), Matthew Purdom (Immaculate Conception) and Bryan Whitson (Mundelein).
Jeff Joniak returns as Master of Ceremonies. Ted Phillips, Chicago Bears CEO and President, will be the Keynote Speaker. Northwestern University Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald will be honored for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, as introduced by Dave Eanet. Northern Illinois University Head Coach Jerry Kill will receive the prestigious NFF Courage Award. Newly retired Joe Tiller will receive the NFF Distinguished American Award. Current and former NFL/college football players will attend including Notre Dame Heisman Trophy winner John Lattner, Illinois Head Coach Ron Zook, Illinois State Head Coach Brock Spack, College Football Hall of Famers Jimbo Covert andTom Beck, John Mackey Award winner Tim Stratton, Taylor Stubblefield, Dave Revsine, Tom Zbikowski, Brian Baschnagel, Dan Jiggetts, Bobby Douglass, Gary Fencik, Glen Kozlowski, Emery Moorehead, Jerry Azumah and more.
Registration is $150 for each attendee. This includes a 1 year NFF Membership valued at $40 for each attendee. Attendees that are already NFF Members will have their current membership extended by 1 year. Proceeds are used to provide college scholarships at this event, with a match provided by a generous contribution from Bears Care.
Space is limited to 100 people on a first-to-register basis. NFF Members can bring as many guests as they wish as long as the 100 spots are not filled. If you register for more than one person, we will contact you via email to obtain the names of your guests.
Only registered attendees will be permitted past the security guard booth at the entrance to Halas Hall. There are no paper tickets to this event since the names of all registered attendees will be on the list at the security guard booth at Halas Hall.
Business casual dress. Soft drinks will be provided.
