"Top Ten La Jolla Walk #1". La Jolla is one of the ritziest and prettiest So Cal beach town. The idea for a Top Ten La Jolla" walk came from the book Top Ten San Diego". It lists the best 10 sights to see in La Jolla. What started as a single route connecting the sights soon became two. There was just too much to cover! The 5K UCSD" route is rated 1 and is entirely on the UCSD campus. It takes in Geisel Library and other landmarks. The 11K route features five top ten" sights: UCSD, Salk Institute, Scripps Oceanography Institute and Pier, the Birch Aquarium at Scripps and La Jolla Theatre. It's rated 2+ for a good uphill pull midway through the walk. The rest is flat. The terrain is city sidewalks and pedestrian paths. In addition the route includes a dirt trail loop to an overlook of Black Beach. Dogs are not allowed in Salk Institute or on the dirt trail to Black Beach but these sections can be skipped by dog walkers.
