Before you register there are a few things you must know and consider.Class size is limited to 40. Classes start on January 5th and run through February with the exception of Feb. Vacation. You must be 13yo or older to participate, if there is room at the end of registration for 12yo students, they will be accepted into the class at a reduced rate and they will NOT be eligible to umpire until the following season, (2013). They are welcome to take the test but the test will not be submitted to the NUA for scoring. (hence the reduced fee) This is an intensive class consisting of 24-28 hours of classroom time with quizzes and tests. There is also a field mechanics portion that will require 4-8 more hours once the fields are open. Please be sure that you can take on this added responsibility to your current homework load. The class consists of in-depth study and explaination of the rules of baseball AND Softball and you are expected to participate in each class. If you miss one, you will miss a rule and it's application, potentially affecting your test score. Students that score a 70% or higher on the final test will be eligible to umpire in the future seasons. Students that score 80% or above will recieve National Umpire Certification which is the Official Certification of Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball. The Final exam is 100 questions and is in the True/False format (this is subject to change as there may be a multiple choice and essay section added for the 2012 season). The cost of the class is $100 which includes: the cost of the Certification Test Scoring for Baseball or Softball Class Materials (rulebooks) Umpire Starter kits (for those who recieve a 70% score or higher) Umpire Shirt (for those who recieve a 70% score or higher)
