Description:
The City of Kalamazoo will host their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, Friday November 27, 2009 at Bronson Park. The Tree Lighting Ceremony begins at 7pm when the Mayor Bobby Hopewell of the City of Kalamazoo, City Commissioners and Officials take the stage and read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Children can arrive at the Park early (about 6:15pm) to help the elves decorate the holiday tree before Santa & Mrs. Claus arrive. Attendees are once again encouraged to bring non-perishable canned goods benefiting food pantries at the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference as well as Loaves and Fishes. Local blues band, Smokestack Lightnin' will provide entertainment and the traditional hot chocolate available for those attending the celebration. Proceeds from hot chocolate donations will be given to the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter of Kalamazoo.
The ceremony concludes with the traditional holiday lights "countdown" and the appearance of Santa & Mrs. Claus. After which, they will lead a lantern parade to Santa's Village in Mall Plaza. Children can visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus there until 8:30pm.
