The event will be held 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and is free and open to the public. The event`s purpose is to teach visitors about aspects of daily life that French, Spanish, English and Dutch explorers and colonists endured in the American Southeast in the 1500`s. Essential skills used during this time such as: tent making, sewing, sword fighting, clay oven cooking, cannon firing, crossbow shooting, matchlock musket drill and firing, pike drill, and making tools will be demonstrated. Over 50 reenactors are coming together from locations throughout the state and beyond with the common goal of keeping this period of American history alive and exciting for the public. "This event kicks off the Timucuan Preserve’s living history season, a series of six period costumed educational programs, held every two months, highlighting the historical panorama of Northeast Florida.I sincerely hope our community and visitors will come and support this wonderful educational experience" Superintendent Barbara Goodman said recently."This will be a multi-sensory special event. Visitors will smell, see, hear, and touch aspects of life as it was here in Jacksonville over 450 years ago." Fort Caroline National Memorial is free and open to the public daily between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The Timucuan Preserve Visitor Center is located there and serves to orient visitors about the natural and cultural history of this 46,000 acre National Park Service site.
